UPDATE:  HOAE assessments for admission to Highly Competitive Programs starting Fall 2012 are still being offered. The Registrar’s Office is continuing to send out invitations to test for Highly Competitive Programs that still have spaces available.  If you receive an invitation to complete a HOAE assessment, please book an appointment through your ACSIS account. 

For Winter 2013 applicants, HOAE assessments will begin in April.

How do I book an appointment to write the HOAE?  

To write the HOAE at Algonquin College, you must make an appointment through your ACSIS account.

HOAE Candidates outside the National Capital Region

If you live farther than 40 km from the Algonquin College campuses in Ottawa, Pembroke, or Perth, you may request to complete your HOAE assessment at a college or university testing centre in your local community.  You can view a listing of suitable test centres within Ontario here.

Requests to complete your HOAE assessment at an approved testing centre in your community can be made through your Algonquin College student information system (ACSIS) account.

What is the format of the HOAE and how long does it take?    

The HOAE consists of five timed multiple-choice sections.  Your assessment session will be 2 hours and 30 minutes.  In order to familiarize yourself with the HOAE, you can download sample questions and read about the HOAE from the Psychological Services Bureau.

What do I need to bring on the day of the HOAE?   

You must bring a piece of valid photo ID when you come to write the HOAE.  Without valid photo ID, you cannot write the HOAE.

The charge for writing the HOAE is $50, payable by cash, credit or debit.  Please note that we do not accept personal cheques.

Can I rewrite the HOAE?  

The HOAE can only be written once per academic year.

I have written the HOAE before.  Can I use my old results?  

No.  The HOAE is updated regularly, and so Algonquin College will not allow you to use results from previous years.

I have applied to multiple institutions in Ontario requiring me to write the HOAE.  Do I need to write it at each institution that I applied to?  

No.  Even if you have applied to multiple institutions in Ontario requiring you to write the HOAE, you only need to write the HOAE once.  Your results will automatically be transferred by Ontario Colleges.ca to all other Ontario institutions for which you have applied to programs requiring your HOAE results.

How do I get my results?  

Your results will be automatically forwarded to the Registrar’s Office.  Your results will be added to your application for all Algonquin programs to which you have been invited to complete the HOAE.

New for 2012:  If you have applied to a program at an Ontario college other than Algonquin that requires you to complete the HOAE, your results will automatically be sent to those institutions.

You will not receive a copy of your HOAE results directly after your assessment session.  You can request a copy of your results by sending an email to testcentre@algonquincollege.com
