Dean Russell Mills Receives Diamond Jubilee Medal

Russell Mills, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Media and Design, was awarded the Diamond Jubilee Medal on Tuesday, June 12, 2012. Governor General David Johnston presented the award to Russ just prior to the annual Michener Awards, held at Rideau Hall.

The Diamond Jubilee Medal is a new commemorative medal created to mark the 2012 celebrations of the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s accession to the Throne as Queen of Canada. It is awarded to Canadians who have made significant contributions and achievements to their country or province.

Russ was selected for the award for his many years of involvement with the Michener Awards. He has been President of the Michener Awards Foundation since 2010.

The Michener Awards Foundation honours, celebrates and promotes excellence in Canadian public service journalism and was established in 1970 by the late Right Honourable Roland Michener, Governor General of Canada from 1967 to 1974.
