POLICY

  1. Scholarships and Awards
1.1 Scholarships or awards are given to students in recognition of their academic achievement.  This takes various forms, including a sum of money, medal, plaque, books, or tools.
1.2 The selection of the recipients is determined by the criteria established by the donor and approved by the College.
1.3 The recipients of scholarships and awards are recognized publicly by the College.
1.4 Three levels of awards recognize student academic achievement: Donor-based awards, School awards of excellence, College awards:
1.4.1  Donor-Based Awards:  The College recognizes students’ achievement at the level of a program or program cluster through the administration of scholarships and awards given by donors.
1.4.2 School Awards:  Each School has established a number of annual awards to recognize the academic excellence and achievement of students.  The award may take the form of a certificate, medal and/or a sum of money.  Awards are opened to all students of the School, who meet the defined criteria of the awards.
1.4.3 College Awards: The College has created a number of College-wide awards to recognize the academic excellence and achievement of its students, and the contribution they have made to the College.  These awards reflect College values.
1.5 The administration of scholarships and awards is the responsibility of the each School and the appropriate Academic Department.
1.6 As stated in the agreement between the College and the University of Ottawa, there will be no awards or scholarships created or disbursed to the Woodroofe campus Bachelor of Science in Nursing students.  These students have access to awards and scholarships offered by the University of Ottawa.
  2. Bursaries
    2.1
Registrar’s Office and the Algonquin College Foundation administer the Algonquin College Bursary program. They administer provincially mandated student aid, donated funds and donor-directed bursaries established by the Algonquin College Foundation.  Algonquin College is  indebted to the individuals, alumni, corporations, associations and non-profit organizations whose donations assist Algonquin College students.
2.2 The aim of the Algonquin College Bursary program is to assist students with educational costs and students must clearly demonstrate financial need.
2.3 International students facing financial challenges can apply for several specific bursaries administered by the International Education Centre. International students are not eligible for mandated student aid or donor-directed funds that have been matched through the Ontario Trust for Student Support. Information on bursaries for International students can be found on the Registrar’s Office website.
2.4 As stated in the agreement between the College and the University of Ottawa, there will be no  bursaries created or disbursed to the Woodroofe campus Bachelor of Science in Nursing students.  These students have access to the bursaries offered by the University of Ottawa.
