Assistive Technology Support
The CSD team includes two Assistive Technologists (AT). Any student registered with the CSD can access the services of the AT. The Assistive Technologist’s job is to help you identify and train with the assistive technology that is right for you. Students usually see an Assistive Technologist after being referred by someone in the Centre for Students with Disabilities.
One of the first things that an AT will do with you is an AT Needs Assessment. The Assistive Technologist goes over your disability-related documentation and explores your strengths and disability-related weaknesses in relation to your courses. The AT then works together with you and other CSD staff to find the right technology to try to help you be more successful at Algonquin.
After the AT Needs Assessment, the Assistive Technologist trains you with your asssistive technology so that you can use the technology in your studies. After you have worked with your technology, they will get your feedback about how it is working. If it is working well, they will make an Assistive Technology Recommendation, which is a brief statement about the technology they recommend and how it helps you. If the assistive technoloyg is not helpful for you, they will start the process again and look other assistive technology options.
